JOLIET, Ill. – The Kansas City T-Bones rode another solid outing from Kenny Durost (pictured) tonight as they took game one of a three-game set against the Joliet JackHammers, 13-2, at Silver Cross Field in Joliet, Ill.

Kansas City took a quick 2-0 lead against Nate Sevier in the first on a two-run single by Craig Hurba.  Hurba’s hit came after the T-Bones used two walks and a single to load the bases with two outs.  Juan Diaz responded for the JackHammers with a two-run home run off Durost to tie the game in the bottom of the frame.

Durost held the JackHammers hitless after the first, surrendering just four baserunners over his final six innings.  Joliet got just one baserunner to second base after the first inning when Joey Gomes stole second in the fifth inning.  The right-hander improved to 7-4 after allowing two runs on three hits while striking out six and walking four.

Sevier matched Durost through four innings before the T-Bones used back-to-back home runs from Greg Jacobs and Ken Harvey to take a 5-2 lead in the fifth.  Jacobs’ blast also drove in Bo Hart who reached on a fielder’s choice.  Sevier allowed five runs on five hits over five innings in the loss.

Kansas City added another tally in the sixth and picked up three more in the seventh on Harvey’s second home run of the contest to pull ahead by seven.  Another three-run blast, this time by Hart, pushed the score to 12-2 in the eighth.

Neb Brown added a solo home run of his own in the ninth to cap the score at 13-2.  Kansas City collected five home runs in the contest, tying a team record set earlier this month on August 2 versus Gary.

Brady Martinez faced the minimum over his two scoreless innings in relief of Durost thanks to a double play to end the contest.  He struck out three of the six batters he faced.  The two innings of relief from Martinez pushed Kansas City’s scoreless streak out of the bullpen to 10 innings.

The two teams face off again tomorrow as Kansas City looks to secure a series victory with Chris Rhoads taking the mound against Brad Mumma for the JackHammers.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
