Rubber Match Suspended in Fifth Inning

06/08/2008 7:52 PM -

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks were able to finish just four innings in tonight’s rubber match before Mother Nature (pictured) opened the skies to force a game suspension.

Against T-Bones starter Mark Michael, Fargo jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead with three home runs in the first inning.  Joe Mathis started off the game with his second home run of the season and was followed by Jeff Eure and Kory Wayment, their third and first of the campaign respectively.

David Castillo hit his first home run of the year with one out in the top of the third to push Fargo’s lead to seven.  Kansas City responded off Brett Lawson in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single from Jim Fasano and a two-run basehit from Aharon Eggleston to pull them within four, 7-3.  Michael left after two and one-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits.

Fargo got their final run of the night off reliever Alexy Still when Eure hit his second home run of the contest in the fourth to make the score 8-3.  The T-Bones loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth but failed to score when David Morgan forced Eggleston to ground out to end the frame.  Lawson lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on six hits.

The rains came before the teams could begin the top of the fifth, forcing them to suspend the contest until July 29 when it will be resumed as part of a doubleheader in Kansas City.  The first game of the twinbill will start at 6:00.  After completion of the suspended game, there will be a 20-minute intermission before play resumes with a seven-inning game.

The T-Bones open a short two-game series tomorrow with the Joliet JackHammers.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
