KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones fell to the Gary SouthShore RailCats tonight for the first time this season, 2-0, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

T-Bones starting pitcher Mark Michael (pictured) pitched well in front of 4,752 fans, throwing five scoreless innings before getting into trouble in the sixth.

Gary scored the only runs of the game on a ground ball from Cristian Guerrero.  After a walk to Steve Haake loaded the bases, reliever Brady Martinez came in to face Guerrero with one out.  Guerrero sent the ground ball to second, allowing Eric McNamee to score from third.  Second baseman Rob Watson threw to shortstop Geoff McCallum to get Haake at second; but McCallum’s attempt at a double play got away from first baseman Jim Fasano, who couldn’t corral the errant throw.  Jay Pecci scored from second on the throwing error by McCallum, pushing the score to 2-0.  Michael allowed the two runs, one earned, on five hits in five and one-thirds innings, falling to 1-2 on the season.

The two runs were all RailCats pitcher Tony Cogan needed as he tossed seven and two-thirds scoreless innings, surrendering four hits while improving to 1-1.

Kansas City threatened in the ninth inning, loading the bases against P.J. Bevis before Nick Jaros grounded out to second to end the contest.  Bevis picked up the save, the RailCats first save of the season.

Tag Horner, Rick Hummel and Chris Rhoads combined with Martinez to throw three and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief for Kansas City in the loss.

The three-game series is now knotted at one as the two teams prepare for the rubber match tomorrow.  Reid Hamblet takes the mound for the T-Bones against Billy Phillips for the RailCats.  The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.

Game Notes:  Kansas City had won five straight against the RailCats dating back to last season.
