T-Bones Fireworks Best in KC

10/05/2007 2:35 PM -

The T-Bones post-game fireworks and the play of Rob Watson this summer have earned some recognition in The Pitch.  In the "Best Of" issue, The Pitch recognizes the fireworks at CommunityAmerica Ballpark as the best in the city and lists Rob Watson as the best T-Bone of 2007.

Excerpts from The Pitch, Week of October 3, 2007

Best Post-Game Fireworks (2007)
Community America Ballpark
This fireworks show may qualify as the most American 10 minutes in Kansas. After the final pitch, the stadium lights dim. The crowd, with last-minute hot dogs and plastic beer cups in hand, trickles from the bleachers to the outfield. Chuck Berry and Little Richard blare from the speakers. This is no brief burst of sparklers or cheap kits from a roadside Black Cat stand. This is the real deal. It's the type of show that goes on longer than you expect — long enough that, as suspense for the last rocket wanes just as that final series of explosions hits, you're 12 again. The show follows every Saturday home game, win or lose. If the T-Bones win, it's the relish on the ballpark dog. If they lose, you'll have forgotten all about it by the time the show reaches the grand finale.

Best T-Bone (2007)
Rob Watson
Sometimes the most important player on a team isn't the superstar but rather the guy willing to do whatever it takes. Second baseman Rob Watson is that guy. As Northern League Player of the Month in July, he batted .413 and knocked in 29 RBIs to help the T-bones stay atop the Eastern Division. But the former Oklahoma State standout and 2002 Detroit Tigers draft pick has done more than just get on base. He picked up the slack as the team shuffled its roster, filling in at third base, shortstop and even atop the pitcher's mound. Oh, yeah, and that grand slam he hit in August to lift his team over the rival Joliet Jackhammers? It shows that hard work also has rewards.
