08/20/2003 9:42 AM - Tonight’s game was a nail-biter for Kansas City. The T-Bones and Flyers were tied 2-2 from the second inning to the seventh inning, when Kansas City scored two more runs. Feeling confident that the T-Bones would be victorious, Jason Davis came in for starter Jon McDonald, who pitched a commendable seven innings with six hits and only two runs. Davis closed out the top of the eighth, and things were looking good for the T-Bones as closer D.J Johnson took the mound in the top of the ninth.

The Flyers, in a “never say die” rally, scored two runs on Eric Goerdt’s base hit up the middle that scored Ryan Lundquist and Brant Brown. The score was now tied 4-4 with only one out. Geoff McCallum flew out to left field advancing Goerdt to second. Johnson got down to business and lured Mike Futrell to strike out looking to end the inning.

T-Bones fans were getting anxious in the bottom of the ninth after Chris LePine got a base hit, and Taber Maier struck out. The turning point for the T-Bones was when Skip Adams pinch hit for Rick Prieto. Adams singled through the right side, and LePine turned on the jet packs and made it to third. It was at a point in the line-up that every pitcher in the rest of the Northern League dread, Eddie Pearson was up to bat. As the league’s leading hitter, he was intentionally walked to load the bases. Up next was former Flyer, Rodney Clifton, who is always happy to show his old team what they are missing now. Clifton flied out to left, but it was enough to score LePine and end the game in favor of the T-Bones 5-4.

The T-Bones head north to play a three-game series with their Western Division rival the Fargo/Moorehead Redhawks. The T-Bones must be on top of their game to knock the Redhawks out of first place. After Fargo, the T-Bones go to Sioux City to face the Explorers for a three-game series, and return home on Aug. 29 for their last regular season homestand against Sioux Falls.
