12/17/2002 12:21 PM - Kansas City, KS, December 17, 2002 – The Kansas City T-Bones Baseball Club, a member of the Independent Northern League, announced today that Darryl Motley will join the team as hitting coach for the upcoming 2003 season.
“It’s going to be great to come back to Kansas City where so many of my best memories as a professional player happened,” said Motley. “Now I can share some of my experiences with young players interested in getting their shot at the Show.”

Motley brings six years of major league baseball playing experience to the T-Bones, five of which were spent as an outfielder for the Kansas City Royals. In the decisive seventh game of the 1985 World Series, Darryl scored the first run with a solo home run and then caught the final out in left field as the Royals took the championship in the “Show Me” World Series versus the St. Louis Cardinals.

“It’s not often that you can hire a man with the baseball credentials that Darryl has – a significant career in the majors, significant experience in the independent Northern League and a strong local history,” said T-Bones manager Al Gallagher. “We’re delighted to have Darryl on board and know he will be a great fit in the community and an asset to our team.”

Motley holds several Northern League team records. In 1996, as a member of the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, Darryl set team records for batting average (.346), home runs (26) and RBIs (103).
