LONG BALL POWERS 'FISH

The York Revolution saw a two-game winning streak end as the Bridgeport Bluefish picked up a 9-3 win over the Revs in a Camp Day matinee in front of 3,896 fans at PeoplesBank Park on Wednesday afternoon, evening the series at a game apiece.

After being held to just one run a night earlier, the Bridgeport offense responded with 13 hits and four home runs.

Bridgeport got on the board early with two runs in the first. Tony Abreu walked with one away, and Jose Cuevas followed with a double down the left field line. With runners at second and third, Sean Burroughs came through with a single up the middle to drive in both runs, giving his team a 2-0 lead.

Victor Mateo settled down after that, retiring 12 of 13 at one point, but in the fifth, D’Arby Myers and Cuevas each hit solo home runs to left-center field as Bridgeport doubled the lead to 4-0.

Travis Witherspoon would respond for the Revs in their half of the fifth, hitting his fifth home run of the season out to left center field, the only run allowed by Bluefish starter Reinier Roibal who picked up his first Atlantic League victory.

Bridgeport was quick to answer, batting around in the sixth inning against Hawtin Buchanan and plating four, highlighted by a two-run home run from Angelys Nina to go along with RBI hits from Myers and Cuevas to make it an 8-1 game.

The Revs struck for a run in the eighth. Telvin Nash singled to right and Jared Mitchell followed with a double, his tenth in the last 13 games. Later in the inning Carlos Triunfel lifted a sac fly to right to bring home Nash and make it 8-2.

The Bluefish would add one more in the ninth with a home run from Cuevas to lead off the frame, his second of the game and fifth of the season to make it 9-2.

Alonzo Harris led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run to left center, his tenth of the season for the Revs and second in as many games. It began a stretch of four straight hits for the Revs, but Elvin Ramirez struck out back-to-back hitters to end it, finishing off the 9-3 Bluefish win.

The Revs will look to win the series on Thursday night as they go for a sixth straight victory in a series finale, sending LHP Frank Gailey (7-7, 4.87) to face off with RHP Charles Brewer (6-3, 4.50). It’s Softball Night at PeoplesBank Park, along with Revs Got Talent Night. For tickets visit yorkrevolution.com, the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office, or call 717-801-HITS.

Darrell Henry and Matt Present will be on the air at 6:10 p.m. on 1350 WOYK as well as online at woyk1350.com and on the WOYK App.

NOTES:

With a two-hit game, Alexi Casilla extended his hitting streak to 23 in a row, tying Vince Harrison (2011) for the third longest streak in Revs history. Casilla has the longest active streak in the Atlantic League and has gone 41-97 (.423) over that span. He now has 13 multi-hit games as a Rev and has hit safely in 27 of his 31 games played. With a stolen base in the second inning, Jared Mitchell moved into sixth place in Revs history with 34 stolen bases. Isaias Tejeda had two hits on the day and became the first player in the Atlantic League this season to reach the 100-hit mark.
