(July 21, 2022 – York, Pa.): The York Revolution avoided a sweep and finally snapped a 13-game second half opening winning streak for the Gastonia Honey Hunters, blasting two home runs and racking up 11 hits in a 6-2 victory on Thursday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park. Revs starter Nick Travieso twirled a brilliant outing to back the offense’s effort.
York got the ball rolling first on Thursday as Telvin Nash unloaded a towering shot to left center field for a two-run homer, putting the Revs ahead 2-0. It was Nash’s second in four games since his return and the 96th home run of his York career. The long ball also plated Elmer Reyes who had previously reached with a double, his league-leading 30th of the season.
The Revs added another in the second inning, with JC Encarnacion lining a base hit to left, scoring Yefri Perez who had doubled and made his way to third after evading a rundown.
In the fourth inning, Reyes drove in another run on yet another double, his 31st, extending the lead to 4-0. Two batters later, Carlos Franco continued his meteoric rise up the Revs all time leaderboards when he blasted a two-run home run to the lawn in right center, making the score 6-0.
For Franco, it was the 52nd of his York career, moving him past Isaias Tejeda for fifth in team history. It was also the 26th of his season, breaking a tie with Chris Nowak (2011) and Nellie Rodriguez (2021) for the third most in a season in team history. Now with 195 career RBIs in a York uniform, he also moved within four of James Shanks for sixth-most RBIs all-time in Revolution history.
The seventh inning saw the end of yet another dominant Travieso start. He left after 6.1 innings, giving up just five hits (three entering the inning), and striking out six.
Travieso (4-5) had one run charged to him on the day, his only run in 12.1 innings over his last two starts, which came on a wild pitch from Nick Howard who came on in relief. Howard was able to bounce back, striking out Alex Holderbach to end the frame without further damage.
Gastonia plated one more in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to center field by Joseph Rosa, but Lenin Rodriguez ended the inning by cutting down league stolen base leader Reece Hampton attempting to steal second base as the Revs catcher cut down his second attempting base stealer of the day.
Jim Fuller pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close down the win, including two strikeouts.
York will open the second half of their 12-game homestand with the first of three vs. the Lancaster Barnstormers on Friday with a special start time of 10 p.m. for the Revs’ much-anticipated Midnight Madness game.
