(April 30, 2022 – Lancaster, Pa.): The York Revolution were unable to find the key hit, stranding a dozen runners in a 5-3 loss to the Lancaster Barnstormers on Saturday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The Revs went 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position on the night, and twice pulled within one run only to have the Barnstormers respond in their half of the inning.
Lancaster led 1-0 after an inning on an Andretty Cordero two-out RBI single up the middle.
York answered in the third as Elmer Reyes singled to right and Jack Kenley doubled to right, landing two in scoring position with no outs. Yefri Perez bounced a grounder to first scoring Reyes to tie the game at 1-1, but that was all the threat would produce.
Revs starter Jorge Martinez (0-1) was solid in five innings, but was touched once more in the fifth when Colton Shaver prolonged the inning with a two-out bloop single, preceding Kelly Dugan’s tiebreaking two-run homer to right giving Lancaster a 3-1 lead.
York mounted a big threat in the sixth, loading the bases with no outs but could only score one run on a Josue Herrera sac fly to center. Lancaster center fielder LeDarious Clark dropped the attempted catch for an error, but reliever Tommy Shirley retired the next three batters, keeping the Revs behind at a 3-2 score.
Lancaster recovered that run in the home half as Mark Zagunis led off with a homer to right, inching the Barnstormers lead to 4-2.
The Revs plated a two-out run on an error in the top of the eighth, drawing within 4-3 but Lancaster closer Scott Shuman induced a ground out before striking out the side in the ninth for a four-out save.
Lancaster tallied an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Connor Lien blooped a triple to right and scored on an Anderson Feliz sac fly.
The Revs will close their season-opening nine-game road swing on Sunday at 1 p.m. as RHP Duke von Schamann (0-1) faces Lancaster’s Cameron Gann (0-0). Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and the WOYK YouTube channel beginning at 12:40 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Jake Ness on the call.
