NICELY TOSSES GEM

(June 24, 2021 – York, Pa.):  Austin Nicely tossed seven magnificent innings combining on a two-hit shutout as the York Revolution closed a 12-game homestand with a 2-0 victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Thursday evening at PeoplesBank Park.

The first run for either side did not cross until the seventh. York struck first with a two-run, three-hit seventh inning. Jack Kenley walked with one out and three consecutive singles followed. James Harris singled to left field for his first Revs hit. John Sansone hit a line drive to center, scoring Kenley for the first run of the night. Shortly thereafter, Tyler Hill collected his second hit on another liner to center, scoring Harris for a 2-0 lead.

Nicely (2-2) was tremendous in his fifth start of the year.  The lefthander went seven scoreless innings, allowed just two hits (both infield singles), walked two and fanned six, setting Revs career highs in innings pitched and strikeouts.  He retired 11 of his final 12 batters faced on the night.

Victor Capellan followed with a scoreless eighth, striking out two Blue Crabs. Jim Fuller closed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth for his fifth save of the season.

Brandon Barker (0-3) went 6.2 innings in a losing effort. The 6-foot-3 righthander allowed two runs on eight hits, walked one, and struck out five. He allowed just two base runners through his first four innings before the Revs collected seven hits through his final 2.2 innings.  Barker kept the game scoreless until the late innings thanks to inducing double plays in the fourth, fifth, and sixth.

York begins a seven-game, six-day road trip starting with a doubleheader at Southern Maryland on Friday at 5 p.m.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and the WOYK YouTube channel with Darrell Henry on the call.

The Revs return to PeoplesBank Park on Friday, July 2 for a four-game homestand through the July 4th weekend hosting the Lancaster Barnstormers. July 2 is Friday Night Throwdown presented by PA Virtual Charter School. It’s also Foodie Friday and Fast Play Friday presented by PA Lottery. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Shipley Energy Ticket Office.

Notes: The Revs finish the homestand with a 6-6 mark, splitting the four series. York moves into a tie for second place with Southern Maryland in the Atlantic League North, just 2.0 games out of first; it is the first time York has been in second since May 30, following the second game of the season.  The shutout win is the Revs’ first of the year.  York pitching has posted a combined one-hitter and two-hitter over the course of the last five games.  Thursday marked the fifth time in the last seven games that a contest has been decided in the seventh or later, with York winning four of those five late decisions.  The Revs have scored the tying or go-ahead run in the seventh inning in five of the last seven games.  Nicely won for the second time in three starts; he has allowed no earned runs on three hits or fewer and has worked into the seventh in both of those victories.
