MARZI SHUTS OUT REVS

The York Revolution fell to the New Britain Bees, 2-0 on Wednesday evening at PeoplesBank Park, held to just five hits by lefty Anthony Marzi in a complete game shutout.  The Revs will go for a four-game split in the series finale on Thursday evening.

Marzi (4-4) got ahead in the count throughout the night and kept Revs hitters off balance, allowing just six baserunners and needing only 104 pitches to record his 27 outs.

The Bees got on top early as James Skelton singled and Jovan Rosa doubled with one out in the first. Then with two outs, Connor Bierfeldt hit a swinging bunt up the first base line that started off foul but came back fair. Ryan Dent tried to make a bare hand play but did not get a clean grip as Bierfeldt was already past him, reaching safely and driving in a run.

It was the only run of the night against Victor Mateo who threw seven strong innings, scattering nine hits while not walking a batter. It was the eighth time in ten starts that he allowed one earned run or fewer.

The Bees added an insurance run late, as Yusuke Kajimoto walked to lead off the eighth against Hawtin Buchanan. Skelton then bunted Kajimoto to second, and he came around to score on a double by Craig Maddox off the Arch Nemesis in left.

Meanwhile, Marzi was in cruise control as he recorded four three-up, three-down innings and did not allow a runner past second base. He becomes the first player in the Atlantic League this season to toss a nine-inning shutout.

Alexi Casilla was the Revs’ lone bright spot at the plate, getting on base with a bunt single as well as a double to the gap in left-center field. He also laid down a sac bunt and was robbed of a hit by third baseman Jovan Rosa in the first inning.

The Revs and Bees wrap up their four-game set Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. as York sends Curtis Partch (3-3, 4.45) to the hill to face off with Jonathan Pettibone (0-2, 2.67). It’s Revs Got Talent Night at the ballpark as well as Maple Donuts Night. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.  Darrell Henry and Matt Present will be on the air at 6:10 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 WOYK as well as online at woyk1350.com and on the WOYK App.
