REVS PUT UP 20 IN FINALE

(June 3, 2021 – Gastonia, NC):  The York Revolution scored their most runs in a game since the 2012 season, salvaging the series finale against the Gastonia Honey Hunters with a 20-5 victory on Thursday night at CaroMont Health Park.  Andrew Dundon drove in six for the Revs, Carlos Franco parked a grand slam, and Carlos Castro enjoyed his second four-RBI game in three nights accounting for just a handful of the production.  The win snaps a five-game skid for the Revs who remain just two games back in the North Division.

York trailed early after Joshua Sale connected on an opposite field home run to left-center in the second inning.

The Gastonia lead was short-lived, as Franco hammered a grand slam to left-center for his first home run of the year and second grand slam of his Revs career.  Dundon added a two-run single to left-center as the six-run outburst provided York with a 6-1 lead.

The Revs added three more in the fourth as Gastonia starter Jailen Peguero loaded the bases with walks after striking out the first two batters.  Reliever AJ Merkel balked home a run, and Castro followed by launching a two-run double to the center field wall as the lead swelled to 9-1.

The Honey Hunters received RBI singles from Ermindo Escobar and Jake Skole in the fourth, and a solo homer to right by Emmanuel Tapia in the fifth, drawing within 9-4.

The Revs exploded for eight runs in the sixth, putting the game away.  Melky Mesa crossed home on a wild pitch for the first run, and Castro drove home another on a sac fly.  Dundon cleared the bases with a three-run double down the left field line, and Welington Dotel drilled a two-run double of his own to the gap in right-center.  Nellie Rodriguez added an RBI single to left as the Revs held a 17-4 lead.

Pinch-hitter Luis Touron homered to left-center in the bottom of the fifth for Gastonia’s final run, but the Revs were far from finished.

Franco, Castro, and Rashad Crawford ripped three consecutive doubles in the top of the eighth with the latter two producing two more runs, and Dundon capped his huge night with a sac fly to deep right-center as the Revs reached the 20-run mark for the fifth time in franchise history.

Eduardo Rivera fired three no-hit innings out of the Revs bullpen to close it out for starter Alex Sanabia (2-0) who worked five innings to pick up his second win in as many starts.

Notes: The run total is the most in a game for the Revs since August 31, 2012 when York put up a record 22 in a game against Long Island.  The Revs tied a club single-game record with eight doubles (July 9, 2007 vs. Road Warriors).  York set a new club record for walks drawn in a nine-inning game with 13.  Mesa, Franco, Castro, and Crawford all had three-hit nights.  Franco scored four times, one shy of a franchise record.  Castro finished the series 8-for-12 with three doubles and eight RBI.  Crawford has now hit safely in five straight, while Rodriguez has hit safely in seven straight to begin the season.  The Revs forced Honey Hunter pitchers to throw 261 pitches on the night.

Up Next: The Revs return to Pennsylvania and will travel to Lancaster to open a weekend series Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Barnstormers home opener.  York righty Duke von Schamann faces Lancaster right-hander Brooks Hall.  Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 98.9 FM & 1350 WOYK, 989woyk.com, The New WOYK app, and the WOYK YouTube channel beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Ray Jensen on the call.
