Right-Handed Pitcher Adam Heidenfelder’s Contract Transferred to Chicago Cubs

GARY, Ind.- Gary SouthShore RailCats’ right-handed pitcher Adam Heidenfelder’s contract has been transferred to the Chicago Cubs.

Adam Heidenfelder is coming off arguably the best start of his career with six innings on the bump, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out ten batters, just the second time a RailCat has completed that feat this season.

A native of Wantagh, New York, Heidenfelder has dominated as a starter after making the transition from the reliever to the rotation just two weeks ago. In two starts on the season, Heidenfelder has 12 innings of work, just two runs allowed, with 17 strikeouts to just four walks.

A master of tunneling his pitches, the 6-foot-5, 260 pound righty averages a team-high 12.8 strikeouts per nine innings and effectively thrives on the edges of the plate highlighted by his four-seam fastball and sweeping slider.

The month of June has been kind to Heidenfelder. Over the last three weeks, he’s delivered a team-best 23 strikeouts en route to two of his four wins on the season, which also leads the RailCats.

A tremendous clubhouse presence, Heidenfelder is a competitor both on and off the field and brings out the best in his teammates.

Heidenfelder is the third RailCat to have his contract transferred to an MLB organization this season, and the nineteenth American Association player.
