Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats (9-9) fell to the league-leading Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (13-5) by a score of 7-0 in the first game of a four-game set.

The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when the RedHawks put up four runs to take the lead. The first run was scored when Mitch Delfino drove in K.D. Kang on an RBI double. Kang led off the inning with a double of his own, and moved to third when Ryan Pineda hit a single. Kes Carter would then drive in Pineda with an RBI groundout off the leg of RailCats starter Alex Gunn to make the score 2-0. Derrick Fox would then follow with a two-run RBI single to double the RedHawks’ lead.

Fargo-Moorhead would add on another run in the seventh when Mitch Delfino hit an RBI single, plating Josh Mazzola.

In the eighth inning, the RedHawks furthered their lead to 7-0 when Yhoxian Medina hit consecutive RBI singles scoring Carter and Fox respectively.

The RailCats had the leadoff batter on for four straight innings between the fifth and eighth innings, but they were unable to score during the ballgame.

Gunn (1-1) threw five scoreless innings before surrendering four earned runs in the sixth inning. Gunn was removed from the game after that sixth inning, giving up four earned runs, eight hits, two walks, and eight strikeouts.

Christian Herstine pitched two innings in relief for the RailCats, surrendering two runs on five hits.

Cesilo Pimentel (4-0) pitched six shutout innings, only surrendering three hits and five walks and he also struck out four.
