RailCats announce seven player additions for 2021

The RailCats announced seven players that will be joining the 2021 season roster. 

 

Trevor Lubking returns to the RailCats following the 2019 season. The left-handed pitcher appeared in 24 games during the 2019 season. Throughout the season Lubking secured a 4.53 ERA with 139 innings pitched and 108 strikeouts. 

 

Hunter Cullen joins the RailCats from the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League. The outfielder spent the 2018 and 2019 season with the Otters. In 2019, Cullen appeared in 78 games with 249 at bats. Cullen slashed .261/.357/.406 throughout the 2019 season. 

 

Right-handed pitcher, Sandy Lugoreturns to the RailCats in 2021 after appearing in 25 games in 2019. Lugo finished the season with a 1.27 ERA with 28.1 innings pitched, 4 runs allowed and 44 strikeouts. 

 

Hayden Schilling also returns to the RailCats after spending the 2019 season with the club. In 2019 the infielder appeared in 18 games with 78 plate appearances. In 2019 Schilling secured 16 hits, 6 RBI’s, 7 stolen base and a batting average of .246. 

 

Left-handed pitcher, Ryan Thurston returns to the RailCats following the 2019 season with the club. Thurston spent the 2020 season with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks and Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association. In 2019 with the RailCats, Thurston threw in 34 games with 52.2 innings pitched with 48 strikeouts and a 2.73 ERA. 

 

Outfielder, Billy Cooke joins the RailCats for the 2021 season. Cooke was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 8th round of the 2017 MLB draft. Throughout the 2019 season, Cooke played for teams at the A, AAA, A- and A+ levels. In 2019, Cooke played in 56 games with 199 plate appearances and 166 at bats. Cooke had 46 hits, 15 RBI’s and 15 stolen bases in the 2019 season. He slashed .277/.379/.404. 

 

Jesse Wilkening, the 28th round pick for the Arizona Diamondbacks of the 2015 MLB draft, joins the RailCats for the upcoming season. The Cedar Lake native spent the 2018 season with the Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York-Pennsylvania League and the Phillies East of the Gulf Coast League. The catcher appeared in 23 games with 75 plate appearances. He secured 18 hits, 7 RBI’s and a .269 batting average.
