WICHITA, Kan. — RBIs from Chase Harris and Reggie Wilson in the top of the 12th guided the Gary SouthShore RailCats to a 6-4 win over the Wichita Wingnuts on a long Wednesday night. The middle game of the series lasted just under four hours and featured 11 total pitchers between the two teams. Gary improved to 2-0 in the second half with Wednesday’s extra-innings win and is now 7-3 on the season in extra frames.

With Andy De Jesus on first and one out in the top of the 12th, Harris lifted a sinking line drive to Wichita right fielder Richard Prigatano who came up short on a diving effort and had it go past him, allowing De Jesus to score on Harris’ RBI triple. Wilson followed Harris with an RBI single down the left field line, plating Harris from third for the final run of the night.

Jorge De Leon (5-1) recorded the win in a season-high 3.1 innings of relief. The right-hander retired the last 10 he faced and struck out three in his first win of the second half. Jamal Wilson (1) secured the win with the save in the bottom of the 12th. Wilson struck out the first hitter he faced and allowed a double in his second pro appearance.

James Campbell (1-1) was charged with his first loss of the year. Campbell allowed two runs on two hits and struck out a batter in one inning of relief.

Gary (29-23) took the opening lead for the second straight game with a pair of runs in the first. Cameron Newell led off the game with a triple to the right-center wall before Tyler Sullivan brought him in with an RBI groundout to second. Colin Willis followed Sullivan with his team-leading sixth home run to left-center.

The RailCats extended their lead to four with two more runs in the third. Newell drew a walk to start the inning before Sullivan reached on an error by the pitcher Jordan Cooper, allowing Newell to move to second. Willis advanced both baserunners up a base with a groundout to second before Martinez increased his team-high RBI total to 36 with a two-run single, scoring both Newell and Sullivan.

Wichita (35-16) got their first run of the evening in the sixth on an RBI triple from All-Star TJ Mittelstaedt. Brent Clevlen started the inning with a one-out double before Mittelstaedt came through with his first of two hits on the evening.

Marshall Pautsch recorded his first quality start in his third pro start. The 22-year-old allowed one run on five hits and a walk and punched out three in a season-high six innings. Martinez went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and reached base a game-high four times.

The Wingnuts cut the RailCats lead to one on Leo Vargas’ two-run home run in the seventh. Richard Prigatano drew a walk to begin the inning before Vargas went deep on a ball that was originally ruled a double.

Martin Medina tied the game at 4-4 with a two-out RBI single in the eighth. Mittelstaedt recorded his second of two hits with a double to left-center before Medina drove him in.

Gary continues their three-game road series on Thursday night in Kansas against the Wichita Wingnuts at 7:05 p.m. RailCats southpaw Braulio Torres-Perez (5-2, 4.73) opposes Wingnuts’ right-hander Tim Brown (0-0, 0.00) in the series finale.
