U23s Match Preview: 7.6.12 vs Panama City BeachOnly four games remain in PDL regular season
ORLANDO, Fla. The Orlando City U23s travel to Panama City Beach, Fla., to take on the Panama City Beach Pirates at Gavlak Stadium on Friday, July 6th, in a showdown of teams ranked third and fourth in the Southeast Division of the PDL. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
Panama (City Beach) is a six-point game, said Orlando City U23s Head Coach Joe Avallone. They are coming together at the right time. We have four games left in this tournament. Our division, from top to bottom, doesnt have an easy game. We know we have to get it done. Orlando is fresh off a dramatic 2-1 win over Mississippi Brilla FC on Tuesday, one in which Defender Oumar Diakhite scored in the 85th minute to give the U23s the three points and victory. The win puts Orlando in third spot in the Southeast Division with a mark of 6-2-4, one point behind IMG Bradenton Academics for second place in the standings. The Pirates most recently defeated FC Jax Destroyers 3-1, keeping pace with the top of the division with a record of 6-3-2. The team is led by Forward Matthew Friesen, who has four goals and one assist for the Pirates in 2012. The two clubs have met once in 2012, with Orlando taking the 1-0 win over Panama City Beach at the Seminole Soccer Complex back on May 19. Drew Helm scored the lone goal in the 10th minute while Goalkeeper Brendan Moore recorded his first shutout of the season to capture the win. After the Pirates match on Friday, only three games remain in the PDL regular season. Two of the three will be played at the U23s home venue of Seminole Soccer Complex, starting with a matchup against current second-place team IMG Bradenton on Tuesday. Player to Watch: Moses Aduny U23s Forward Moses Aduny provided an immediate spark for the Lions when he came on in the 67th minute against Mississippi Brilla FC on Tuesday. Aduny was inserted at the other forward spot, opening up lanes for what eventually led to Citys game-winning goal in the 85th. Look for the forward to continue to provide a spark for the Lions the rest of 2012. |
