Jackson, Miss. – The Orlando City U23s, led by new Forward McKauley Tulloch’s three goals and Anthony Arico’s three assists, took down Mississippi Brilla FC 5-3 in an important Southeast Division matchup at Harper Davis Field Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. In his debut with Orlando, Tulloch scored a hat trick with goals in the 19th, 45th and 51st - helping Orlando move back into the hunt for a spot in the 2012 PDL playoffs.

Mississippi (4-5-1, 13 points) got on the scoreboard first when Midfielder Gui Brandao fed Forward Stephen Roberson past the Orlando backline, with Roberson slotting home his first goal of the season in the 16th minute- giving Brilla the 1-0 lead.

The Lions (5-2-4, 19 points) immediately responded in the 19th minute, with new U23s Forward McKauley Tulloch tying the game at 1-1 with a feed from Anthony Arico. Tulloch, who ranked second in C-USA in points per game with the UCF Knights last season, rebounded his own shot after Mississippi Goalkeeper Phil Boerger stopped his first attempt to level the game at one a piece.

Mississippi and Orlando then exchanged goals in the 23rd and 40th minutes, with Billy Forbes and Johan Bergfeld scoring for the Brilla and Lions, respectfully.

Right before the halftime whistle blew, Tulloch gave Orlando their first lead of the night after Arico found the UCF Knight streaking past Mississippi’s defenders, with Tulloch slotting home the goal to give the U23s the 3-2 lead and momentum heading into halftime.

The goals kept coming from an energized City U23s side once the second half began. After a Brilla handball occurred 30 yards outside the box, Sam Fairhurst found Will Fransden with a header on the following free kick to extend Orlando’s lead to two goals. The Tulloch-Arico pair notched their third and final score just minutes after the Fransden goal, giving Orlando the 5-2 lead. Despite a late goal by the Brilla in the 70th, Orlando held off Mississippi to take the win and three points.

Only five matches remain in the season as the 2012 PDL regular season is rapidly coming to a close. Three of the five games will be held at the U23s home venue of the Seminole Soccer Complex in Sanford, Fla., where the Lions are a favorable 3-1-2.

Mississippi and Orlando square off for the second time in four days as the Brilla visit the Lions at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Sanford, Fla., on Tuesday, July 3, at 7 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for last Sunday, but the match was cancelled due to inclement weather.
