35,000 meals for hungry children in Central Florida to be packed Saturday
On Saturday, Orlando City fans, along with community members and volunteers, will be packing meals to help feed local children in the Central Florida area. The partnership with Feeding Children Everywhere is the second collaborative event between the two organizations.

On May 26, FCE collected donations at the Orlando match against the Charlotte Eagles, raising over $1,400 dollars for the packing event. Along with the money raised from the 50/50 raffle on the 26th, the two organizations were able to generate around $2,000 for the event on Saturday.

For every one dollar raised, FCE packages and ships four meals to hungry children. With the help of donations and more, the goal on Saturday will be to package 35,000 meals.

Feeding Children Everywhere Director of Social Media Allison Belles commented on where the food would be going and how the program works.

“We work on a need basis,” she said. “We work with local guidance counselors and schools in the Orlando area to make sure their food supplies are never out. That’s the most important thing. We want to make sure no child goes to school without proper meals there.”

Orlando City fans have been quick to volunteer, as Belles says they are booked on Saturday. “It’s amazing to see so many spots filled up,” she says. “We’re blown away at the number of people volunteering on Saturday. We had to open up more (around 300) due to high demand.”

The event runs from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m on Saturday. Belles said FCE is ready and knows the event will be successful.

“We’re bringing people together for a common cause. Everyone here (at FCE) are big soccer fans and we couldn’t be more excited to have an Orlando City packing event.”
