On a rainy afternoon at The Villages Polo Grounds in Ocala, Fla., the Ocala Stampede scored the game-winning goal in the 70th minute to capture the 1-0 win over the Orlando City U23s in an important Southeast Division match. The two teams were tied for second in the division heading into the game, with Ocala taking an important three points over the Lions with the win. Weve played better matches and our boys know it, said Orlando City U23s Head Coach Joe Avallone. I cant fault the effort. Ocala played with experience tonight and did what they had to do to disrupt our play. Ocalas Karumba Janneh, who was substituted in for Forward Anthony Asante in the 58th minute, scored the games only goal in the 70th. Janneh, after a turnover by Orlando, rocketed in a goal from the right corner flag to give the Stampede the advantage. Orlando continued to battle after, resulting in two yellow cards for Sean Reynolds and Ryan Griffin in the 83rd minute. The clubs continued to go back and forth until the final whistle blew, resulting in an Ocala victory. The loss leaves Orlando in third place with 16 points while the Stampede move closer to the top spot in the Southeast Division with 19 points. Current division-leaders IMG Bradenton Academics hold the lead by just one point over the Stampede. The Lions face Bradenton in two weeks at Orlandos home venue at the Seminole Soccer Complex in what will be a vital match for a top spot as the PDL regular season draws to a close in just three weeks. The Lions return home after playing their last three matches away to face Mississippi Brilla FC on Sunday, June 24, at the Seminole Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. This will be the first time the two clubs meet in 2012. The Brilla currently sit in fifth place in the Southeast Division with a record of 8-4-3 and 13 points.
