Orlando’s two goals in the first half proved to be too much for the visiting Ocala club as the U23s remain undefeated four matches into the 2012 PDL season. Orlando (3-0-1) got on the scoreboard early, with a goal occurring in the 4th minute from Midfielder Will Fransden. Ryan Griffin led Frandsen toward goal on a cross just outside the 18 yard box, with Ocala Stempede (3-2-1) Goalkeeper Steven Diaz coming off his line to deflect the pass. The 6’ 3” Frandsen leaped over Diaz, knocking the cross in for City’s first goal of the match. U23s Forward Drew Helm, making his fourth start of the season, knocked in his third goal of the season in the 19th minute. After a thrown in from Sean Reynolds, Frandsen attempted a header that got deflected straight to Helm- who blasted in the second goal of the match for Orlando, giving City the 2-0 lead. It didn’t take long for the Stampede to respond. Ocala’s Carlos Araujo and Douglas Dos Santos made a charge on goal, breaking away from the City backline. Araujo found a diving Dos Sanots, who headed in Ocala’s first goal of the match past keeper Brendan Moore, giving the Stampede some life before the half. The third Orlando goal came early in the second half from Forward Moses Aduny. In the 51st minute, Aduny blasted in a deflection from Ocala’s Diaz after receiving a great feed from Sean Reynolds, putting City up by a comfortable two goals. Orlando maintained possession and the offensive pressure in the second half, giving the U23s an important victory over a fellow Southeast Division club. Orlando City Head Coach Joe Avallone commented on his club’s play and what a victory means against Ocala. “Our boys played really well today and got it done,” said Avallone. “What I’m seeing now more than ever is the chemistry. That’s always a thing you try to do in the PDL. It’s not easy to come together in such a young season but I think we’re doing that.” The U23s are on the road for the first time in 2012, traveling to Bradenton, Fla., for a match against IMG Bradenton Academics. Bradenton recently fell to VSI Tampa, another club that plays in the Southeast Division. Even with the loss, the Academics have an impressive 3-1-1 record. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, at the IMG Soccer Complex. For more information on the match, visit orlandocitysoccer.com. |
