Dennis Chin is Orlando City's super-sub, but could he be more?

Dennis Chin is Orlando City’s super-sub. A regular chant that can be heard from the south end of the supporters section is “We believe in Dennis Chin.” We can always count on Dennis to come on the pitch during the second half and give our players a boost when they’re in need. But can Dennis give us a full 90?

“When people are getting tired and slow that’s when he does the most damage, Now the thing is for him to give us that from the beginning of the match,” Heath said. “If he does that than he has a big future in the game, a bright future.”

So far this season Chin has played in all five matches, But has only one start. Chin has scored three goals in 220 minutes. He is one goal behind Stefan Smith of Antigua Barracuda FC for goal leader of the USL Pro. Smith has played in six matches and has scored four goals in 434 mins for Antigua.

There is no question Chin has found his touch as of late and has been the spark on our team offensively but will we see that jolt of speed and finesse on a longer term from Chinny?

“The subs made a difference for us,” Heath said. “Chinny came on and gave us a boost.”

Another player that comes to mind when you think about Dennis Chin is current Nottingham Forest Forward Robbie Findley. Findley played for two MLS clubs while he played in the states; Real Salt Lake, and The Los Angeles Galaxy. Findley is similar in more ways to Chin because he is known for his speed and ability to score goals. Findley frequently came on as a substitute and would make the most of it and score goals on a constant basis with all of his clubs. After his fantastic league performances in 2009 and 2010, Findley received a regular starting role with the National Team and was named to the 2010 FIFA World Cup roster.

Chin hopes to one day follow in Findley’s footsteps and make the transition from super-sub to super-starter.

“I feel like I have a point to prove to myself,” said Chin following last week’s match.

Until then, he’s happy to contribute in any way he can.

“Well coach is a good coach. As far as playing for only a half hour I say if that is my position than that is my position.”
