U-23s: City signs several Florida college standoutsLions add several standouts from UCF, Flagler, Tampa, and other in-state schools
ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City Soccer Club announced today the signing of Ryan Griffin, Sean Reynolds, Anton Sealey, Luis Oceja and Camp Bisell to the Under 23 team, pending USSF approval. All five are standouts at their perspective universities around the state of Florida. “There’s a ton of talent in Florida and we want to draw from that pool,” said U23s Head Coach Joe Avallone. “We feel we’ve identified the best around the state of Florida and right now we just want to get them into our U23 camp and start playing.” Griffin is a recent graduate from the University of Tampa, scoring 11 goals and three assists in his senior season en route to first team all-Sunshine State Conference honors. He was named to the Daktronics All-Region team three years in a row, while earning second team honors his senior season. Griffin already has PDL experience, playing with the Portland Phoenix out of Portland, Maine, in 2011. Reynolds is coming off a productive four years as a strong midfielder at the University of West Florida. He started all seventeen matches during his senior season for the Argos, logging the second most amount of minutes played in 2011 with 1,598. In total, Reynolds started 67 out of a possible 72 matches in his four years at West Florida, scoring five goals during his tenure at UWF. Sealey attended North Carolina from 2010-11, winning a national championship with the Tarheels. At the beginning of the 2010 season, he was named as a TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshmen to Watch. Aside from college accolades, Sealey was the youngest member of the 2007 Bahamas National Olympic Team and 2010 World Cup qualifying squad. He recently transferred to the University of Central Florida, where he’ll participate in the 2012 season as a defender for the Knights. Ocejo started all 18 matches as a sophomore at Stetson, tallying three assists on the season as a midfielder. Along with performing on the pitch, Ocejo has been named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team each year during his first couple years with the Hatters. The Mexico City, Mexico native will reunite with fellow Stetson Midfielder Jonathan Mendoza on the U23 squad. The two started alongside each other in all 18 matches during the 2010 season. Bissell, a standout from Timber Creek High School, is coming off a freshmen campaign at Flagler where he started 21 out of 22 matches- tallying 86 saves and a 0.91 goals against average. As a freshmen, he led the Peach Belt Conference in saves, save percentage and was third in goals against average.
