The match was delayed for 40 minutes due to lightning before Luke Boden put the Lions ahead in the 61st minute. Anthony Pulis added an insurance goal from the penalty spot in the game’s final moments. Orlando and Richmond traded shots in the opening minutes, with Matt Luzunaris leading the attack for the Lions. Jamie Watson had a near goal in the 29th minute, but his chip attempt went high. City keeper Miguel Gallardo was pressed into service several times in the opening 30 minutes, but the reigning USL PRO Goalkeeper of the Year stood firm and kept a clean sheet in the opening half. Halftime saw the skies open up in Richmond, spoiling the jersey retirement ceremony of Kickers legend Mike Burke. Just as the second half started, it stopped. In the 52nd minute, lightning delayed the match approximately 40 minutes. When the match resumed, the match resumed its back-and-forth pace. Orlando started the wave of attacks, with Rob Valentino missing wide on a corner kick attempt. The Kickers returned the favor with two close shots. It was Ian Fuller who final broke the deadlock in the 61st minute, putting in Jamie Watson’s service from another corner kick. Fuller had just come for John Rooney a minute prior. Orlando City remained on the attack for the rest of the match, but the Kickers never quit. Gallardo was again forced into action in the 71st minute, but Orlando’s keeper made back-to-back spectacular saves to keep the Lions in the lead. As the match wound down, Dennis Chin was pulled down in the box by Kickers keeper Ronnie Pascale. Chin still managed to get his shot off, hitting the crossbar. The referee award a penalty kick. Anthony Pulis put the game on ice with his conversion. Moments later, the final whistle blew. Orlando City and Richmond meet again next week to finish off the season series.
