Friendly against Fusion International tonight at 6 p.m.
The Orlando City U23s will be participating in a scrimmage against Fusion International at Seminole Soccer Complex at 6 p.m. The friendly marks the first official scrimmage of the 2012 season for the U23 squad.

Since a lot of the club is still attending college and won’t be available until mid-May, tonight’s lineup consists of a mix of U23 players, pro team reserves and others aspiring to make the U23 team.

“It’ll be an interesting mix of players tonight,” said U23s Head Coach Joe Avallone. “We’ll have some pro players like Matt (Luzunaris) and Justin (Clark), who didn’t get much playing time yesterday (in Orlando City’s 4-1 victory over the Wilmington Hammerheads) starting for the U23s tonight.”

The City U23s will be facing Fusion International in their first organized friendly of 2012. International is made up of many players from Montverde Academy soccer- which was established in 1923 and has a rich history of succeeding on the national level. The MVA team was ranked second in the latest 2011-12 POWERADE FAB 50 Boys’ Soccer Winter Rankings after completing a second straight undefeated season, extending their undefeated streak to a national-best 52 matches.

“We’re playing one of the best high school teams in the nation,” said Avallone. “It’ll be great for every player on the pitch to get more experience and playing time against what I think is one of the best high school teams in the nation.”

The scrimmage will be held on field #8, a non-bleacher field, at SSC at 6 p.m. Admission to the match is free.
