ORLANDO, Fla. - After a day filled with MLS expansion discussion lifted City fans’ spirits, Sweden’s BK Hacken tempered them as they topped Orlando City 2-0 in the final Pool Play match of the Disney Pro Soccer Classic.  After a strong first half, the Lions allowed two goals against the run of play.  City finishes the 2012 PSC with a 0-2-1 record.

The match was a tale of two halves.  Orlando City looked the stronger side in the opening frame, maintaining the lion’s share of possession.  Unfortunately for Orlando, they could not quite connect in the final third.  City’s best came just before the whistle as Dennis Chin made a gorgeous turn and headed for a sure one-on-one with the Hacken keeper, but the referee was quick with his whistle and blew for halftime.

The star of the first half was City Goalkeeper Sean Kelley.  Just two days removed from an embarrassing red card five minutes into the FC Dallas match, Kelley was clearly looking for redemption.  He found it, making several spectacular saves on route to a clean sheet in the first half.  The most impressive part of Kelley’s performance was his saves routinely came in one-on-ones, shutting down counterattack breakaways by Hacken’s dangerous striker Majeed Waris.

City came out for the second half as strong as the first, but by the 60th minute, started to show the effects of playing five matches in two weeks, all at the start of training camp.   A foul 25 yards out gave Hacken their first goal, as veteran Martin Ericsson found Bjorn Anklev unmarked at the back post for a free header.  Just five minutes later, a poor clearance by Adama Mbenge found Hacken’s Dominic Chatto Bashir, who quickly fed an open Anklev.  Miguel Gallardo had little chance to react as Anklev slammed home the easy shot for a brace and a 2-0 lead.

Head Coach Adrian Heath used the rest of the match to evaluate his trialists, as every City player fit enough to play saw minutes.  After the match, Heath remained upbeat about his team’s performance.

“I thought the game was even, very tight against a very good team,” said Heath.  “People have to realize we were playing against a team that finished sixth in the Swedish Premier League last year that has the best of two million pounds in wages.  We played against a team with six nation team players and acquitted ourselves well.”
