By the Numbers: Orlando City vs. Philadelphia Union - 2012.2.18Chris Jones takes a look at the numbers behind tonight's match against MLS side Philadelphia Union
The 2012 season is here and it starts with the MLS’ Philadelphia Union. City will be integrating new stars including John Rooney and James O’Connor while continuing to develop last year’s 2011 championship squad. Let’s dive right into the stats and go By the Numbers…32 - Number of Philadelphia backup goalkeeper Chase Harrison. Recognize the name? You should. Harrison was Harrisburg City’s goalkeeper in the 2011 USL PRO Championship. 3 - Number of international acquisitions made by Head Coach Adrian Heath and staff this offseason. Those players include James O’Connor, Anthony Pulis and John Rooney. 5 -Total goals scored by Philadelphia in a scrimmage against the University of Central Florida last week. The Union defeated the Knights 5-0. 15 - Dennis Chin’s number. Chin will get the start tonight against the Union, which says a lot about Heath’s faith in the young forward. How much can he produce tonight against an MLS squad? We’ll have to watch and see. He's already got one, scoring against Seattle in Monday's scrimmage. 1 - Total number of goals scored in last season’s friendly. Lewis Neal scored the lone goal (unassisted) in the 19th minute to give City the 1-0 win in their first-ever match. 2 - Number of big offseason losses by the Union. Sebastien Le Toux was traded for allocation money to the Vancouver Whitecaps and Faryd Mondragon, who left the squad for Columbian club Deportivo Cali. 3,600 - Attendance of last year’s Union match. What will this year’s turnout be? All indications point to a lot higher, but by how much we’ll see tonight. |
