Cerén and Jean-Jacques Called up for International Duty Cerén to feature with El Salvador in Central American Cup USA 2014, Jean-Jacques joins Haiti for friendly against Chile
Orlando City SC Midfielder Darwin Cerén and Defender Bitielo Jean-Jacques will join their respective national teams for upcoming fixtures. Cerén is set to play four games with El Salvador in the Central American Cup 2014 USA, beginning on Wednesday, September 3 against Guatemala at RFK Stadium. Jean-Jacques will aim to earn his first cap at the senior level when Haiti takes on Chile at Lockhart Stadium on September 9. The Central America Cup is being played on U.S. soil for the first time and will provide berths to the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup and 2016 Centennial Cup America. Following their opening contest against Guatemala, El Salvador will travel to Texas for a match-up against Honduras at the Cotton Bowl on September 7, before playing its final group game against Belize on September 10 at BBVA Compass Stadium. The tournament concludes on September 13 at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, with first place through third places matches scheduled throughout the afternoon. Cerén has captained El Salvador since 2012, making 16 appearances for his native country – including several Gold Cup and World Cup qualifying matches. The defensive midfielder will miss City’s final regular season games against Wilmington on Sept. 3 and Richmond on Sept. 6, as well as the Lions’ first round playoff match on Sept. 13. Haiti’s approaching fixture in Fort Lauderdale marks the third meeting between the Caribbean side and the South Americans, with the most recent result ending in a 3-0 victory for the South Americans in January 2013. Since joining the Lions earlier this season, the left-back has made seven appearances for City, including a recent start in their 7-0 win over the Dayton Dutch Lions. Jean-Jacques will return in time for Orlando City’s opening playoff match. |
