Orlando City and Orlando City U23s Play Third Round Matches Tonight First team to play Rowdies at Seminole Soccer Complex; U23s take on Charleston at Blackbaud Stadium
Orlando, Fla. - Orlando City SC will take on its I-4 rivals, the Tampa Bay Rowdies, at the Seminole Soccer Complex on Wednesday, May 28, for its third round match of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kick-off is set for 8:00 p.m. Tickets are available for $15, cash only, at the entrance of Seminole Soccer Complex, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Due to FYSA tryouts occurring simultaneously, parking for the game will be limited at Seminole Soccer Complex. However, starting at 6:30 p.m., OCSC will provide free satellite parking nearby at Heathrow Elementary School, with shuttles available from 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. to quickly transport fans to the complex. Wednesday’s game will be a difficult test for both sides, considering the importance of the match, and the rivalry between these two teams. The potential fourth round match-ups have already been set, and the winner will take on the Colorado Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Heading into the fixture on Wednesday, Orlando has already secured a victory in this year’s Open Cup, defeating PDL side Ocala Stampede 4-1 on May 14. Orlando and Tampa Bay have already met once this year, in the first leg of the I-4 Derby on April 30, and the Lions produced a 3-0 win over the Rowdies at ESPN Wide World of Sports. The Rowdies currently hold a 2-2-3 in the North American Soccer League (NASL). In their most recent game on May 24, Tampa Bay was able to come from behind and defeat their NASL rivals, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, 3-2. The winning goal was scored in extra-time by Blake Wagner. Meanwhile, the Orlando City U23s will also be in Open Cup action on Wednesday night. The U23s are set to take on USL PRO side, Charleston Battery, in the third round at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC. The match will be live streamed via YouTube.com/TheCHSBattery. The U23s win over Jacksonville United FC in the second round was the young Lions first-ever win the Open Cup. Kick-off for the match against Charleston is set for 7:30 p.m. |
