“I am so pleased with everyone connected with the club”

Despite being overseas, Orlando City Head Coach Adrian Heath has been keeping close tabs on the developments of Major League Soccer (MLS) in Central Florida over the past month. Heath, who has been on a scouting/personal trip, is extremely excited about the recent news of funding for a downtown soccer stadium in Orlando.

“I am so pleased with everyone connected with the club,” Heath said. “I know how hard everyone has worked to help bring the major leagues to Orlando. It’s been an incredible collective effort from the front office to our players to our supporters. We’re just one step closer to something I’ve believed in in a long time.”

Heath has said multiple times that he doesn’t aim to merely become another club in MLS, but elevate Orlando to one of the top teams shortly after the team begins play in potentially 2015.

“I think we’re not just going to be another MLS franchise, but one of the best,” he added. “It’s exciting times on and off the field.”

Heath has already begun scouting players for the 2015 season, including those who comprise the 2014 USL PRO season. The Lions most recently added Goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski, the first new signing of the 2013 offseason. All players on the 2014 squad will be evaluated to possibly jump with the team in 2015.

“We want to hit the ground running in MLS,” Heath added. “We’ll be looking all around the world for players. Carl is the first of many new faces we will add moving forward.”

Despite the overwhelming excitement of MLS in Orlando, Heath wanted it to be known that there still is one more year in the USL PRO, and with it, one more chance to capture a title.

“I want to make it clear to everyone that we don’t expect anything less than a Championship in 2014. Any player who takes their eye off that will most certainly not make the jump with us in 2015. We owe it to our supporters to play the game the way it’s supposed to be played.

It’s a huge year for everybody. Let’s not take the eye off the prize.”
