Starting Goalkeeper discusses preparation, challenge Friday’s playoff game brings

Heading into the Semifinals against the Charleston Battery (No. 3 seed) Friday night, starting Goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo is confident that the Lions (No. 2 seed) are ready for the challenge and the pressures brought by a playoff game.

“We approach this game with the same energy as the last one,” Gallardo said in an interview conducted Wednesday. “If we do that, there’s no reason why we can’t win on Friday.”

Gallardo, who has started nine consecutive games for the Lions in goal, continued on with his comments- saying the team has plenty of depth that tops any other team in the USL PRO.

“We know we have the talent,” he added. “With all due respect to the rest of the teams, but we have the best squad in the league.”

The Torreon, Mexico, native has been a mainstay in Orlando since the Lions began operation in 2011, finishing with a Goals Against Average (GAA) of under one per game for the third consecutive season.

Gallardo commented on a Friday night vs. a Saturday night game, with the goalkeeper saying the team is ready any day of the week.

“In this league, you’re used to playing on Mondays, Saturdays, Fridays, etc. So really it doesn’t matter to us. It doesn’t matter if it’s on a Monday or a Wednesday, we have to come out and play.”
