Lions Square Off Against Charlotte Eagles in Regular Season Closer Despite falling to Richmond Wednesday night, Lions look to end their regular season at home with a win heading into postseason play
Photo: Mark Thor ORLANDO, Fla.-- Orlando City SC (15-4-6, 51 points) returns home on Saturday, August 17, to host the Charlotte Eagles (10-4-10, 40 points) at Fifth Third Bank Field at the Florida Citrus Bowl. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. as the Lions wrap up the 2013 regular season in Central Florida. After losing out on the 2013 USL PRO Regular Season Championship to the Richmond Kickers, Orlando looks to regain focus at home where they are 4-1-0 in their last five matches. Despite the loss Wednesday night, Orlando clinched the second seed in the 2013 postseason – guaranteeing home field advantage through the first two rounds of the playoffs. Unlike last season, all teams enter into the quarterfinals – which begin the weekend of August 23-25. Orlando has already clinched a quarterfinal match, which will be held on Saturday, August 24, at Fifth Third Bank Field at the Florida Citrus Bowl. The last time the two clubs met was back in early April at Queens University Sports Complex, with the game ending in a 1-1 score line. Sporting Kansas City loanee and Forward Dom Dwyer’s 8th minute goal put the Lions up early, but Charlotte Midfielder Nathan Thornton’s 90th minute goal salvaged a draw for the Eagles. The Lions hold a 3-0-2 advantage all-time against the Eagles. The Eagles are currently fifth in the USL PRO standings, with the LA Blues trailing by only three points. Charlotte will be making a Florida road trip out of their last two matches, taking on VSI Tampa Bay FC in Plant City before making the way up I-4 to take on Orlando. Tickets for Saturday’s match start at just $15 and are available by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
