Away game in Richmond Wednesday night determines championship fate for Lions

One big game.

Three points are all the Lions need tonight to clinch the club’s third-consecutive regular season title. But that challenge won’t be an easy task as Orlando (15-3-6, 51 points) square off against current first-place Richmond Kickers (14-1-9, 51 points) at City Stadium in Richmond, Va.

A loss would also mean Richmond would capture the title, their first since 2007 in the former USL Second Division.

A win would launch Orlando to 54 points and 16 wins, a key figure in which to take note. Even if the Lions were to fall Saturday night against Charlotte alongside a Richmond win, total wins is the second differentiator behind head-to-head meetings. The Lions would hold 16 compared to a maximum of 15 for the Kickers should an Orlando win occur tonight.

In essence, Wednesday can win (or lose) it all for the Lions.

Kickoff for the match is set for 7 p.m. with a live stream available by tuning into USLNation.com. Orlando holds a 3-2-1 (W-L-T) advantage all time over the Kickers, with one of the losses coming in the club’s only meeting in 2013. Orlando fell to Richmond 2-0 back on June 29.

A watch party at Harry Buffalo in downtown Orlando has been organized for the away match. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the event, with the first 100 fans through the door receiver a voucher for a free beer (21+). Season ticket holders are encouraged to bring their season ticket reward card, good for 20 percent off the final bill.

Other scenarios occur if Wednesday night’s meeting ends in a draw, with Richmond holding the advantage going into the final Saturday of the regular season.

Can the Lions capture a third consecutive title under Head Coach Adrian Heath? Can they take down a Richmond squad that has lost only once this season?

Be sure to tune in at 7 p.m. tonight to find out. It is going to be one big game.
