One Game At A Time Heath, Braun say next game is most important, concentrate on not looking too far ahead
Photo: Alex Schierholtz After a thrilling 3-2 victory over cross-state VSI Tampa Bay Wednesday night, you may have thought the Orlando City locker room would have been satisfied knowing the first round of the postseason will be held in the friendly confines of Fifth Third Bank Field at the Florida Citrus Bowl. But you’d be wrong. “We’re just starting to get momentum,” said Orlando City Midfielder Freddie Braun. “We’re going to keep it going. There’s no time to pause.” Braun was involved in all three of Orlando’s goals Wednesday night, picking up two assists in the win over VSI. The former Portland Timber midfielder commented on clinching a home playoff game, saying the focus does not change knowing the quarterfinals will be in Orlando. “I don’t think we’re going to shift our focus or take the foot off (the pedal) just because we have that playoff spot,” said Braun. “We have to keep winning games and, if anything, keep getting better.” Orlando City Head Coach Adrian Heath also talked about improving over the final games in the 2013 regular season, saying the important thing is to take each match one at a time. “We take each game as it comes,” Heath said after the victory. “I know that’s an old cliché but the next most important game is Seattle on Sunday. If we don’t win that game then it might not matter what happens at Richmond. If we win the game against Seattle, it sets us up great for the game against the Kickers.” With the win over Tampa Wednesday night, Orlando is now tied for league-lead with Richmond in points with 48. Both teams have played 23 games, meaning the meeting between the two on August 14 may very well decide if Orlando will capture their third-straight USL PRO Regular Season Championship. When asked if his team may look ahead to the Kickers match in Richmond, Heath replied that they will not need to be reminded who’s next on the schedule. “The opposition that we get on Sunday will make our players focused on the next match,” Heath said in reference to the Sounders Reserves. “I expect them to have a very strong team on Sunday.” The Lions are set to host a playoff quarterfinal match on Saturday, August 24, at Fifth Third Bank Field at the Florida Citrus Bowl.
