Making a Difference Orlando City Defender Erik Ustruck raising funds for healthy food availability in Parramore
Healthy habits are a part of a lifestyle Orlando City SC Midfielder Erik Ustruck has made a habit of living since he was young. “I lived an active and healthy lifestyle growing up, with my parents setting a good example for me,” Ustruck said in his interview with OrlandoCitySoccer.com. “It led me to my profession today.” Ustruck now wants to pass along those good habits by raising funds for a refrigerator/freezer in the Parramore district in downtown Orlando. This fridge, which will be located at SunLife Grocery, will store healthy food options for the citizens living around the area, something that is not available as an option currently. It will allow the grocer to store fresh produce on which people can buy and incorporate into their lifestyle.” The fresh food initiative started before the fundraising goal for a new icebox for the St. Louis native, who partnered with ROCK (Reduce Obesity in Central Florida Kids) as part of his ‘Player Cause’ at the beginning of the 2013 USL PRO season. ROCK is locally-based effort dedicated to prevent, reduce and eliminate childhood obesity and promote healthy choices. “It can be a major impact on the people in the Parramore area. I hope five years down the road it won’t be the only fresh-food option available. I honestly believe we can make a positive influence on healthy-eating lifestyle.” |
