Orlando City Soccer Club announced on Thursday, May 30 the retirement of Defender Kieron Bernard. After a stand-out career at San Jacinto College, the Jamaican-international began his professional career with the Austin Aztex in 2009 and made the transition with the club to Orlando in 2011.

“We’d like to thank Kieron for all the service he’s given us over the years and wish him all the success going forward,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath in an interview with Orlandocitysoccer.com

The Jamaican Defender was known for his physical presence and was a key part of the Lions’ USL PRO Championship run in 2011. During his time with the Lions, Bernard appeared in 30 matches and recorded two goals. His last appearance for Orlando City was last year in the 2012 USL Pro Semifinals against Wilmington Hammerheads on August 31.

After an injury plagued pre-season, Bernard continued to struggle with injuries and to break into Heath’s competitive lineup during the 2013 campaign.

“Kieron is one of the original players on the team, along with Miguel. He’s had a tough time with injuries this year, and we’re sad that he has had to retire in this way.” said Heath.
