Keeping Fit Lions' trainer Dan Schuck talks to orlandocitysoccer.com about staying fit through the season
With the 2013 USL PRO schedule heading toward the middle of the season, players can be mentally and physically drained. That’s where the trainers from Spectrum Sports Performance (SSP) come in. Orlandocitysoccer.com caught up with Dan Schuck, vice president and owner of SSP, who has worked alongside Orlando City SC since they kicked off operations in 2011. His main goal is getting the players conditioned prior to the season and maintaining their bodies and fitness levels despite the grueling schedule that can sometimes wear players down. “The evolution of our relationship with Orlando City has grown each year,” said Schuck. “The first year we worked primarily during preseason, now this year it’s changed to the point where they brought us on as full time.” Founded in 2005, SSP works on pre-rehabilitation to warm-ups and everything in-between. Their training regiment consists of working with the Orlando training staff to better prepare the players for upcoming games, while working with those players not seeing many minutes in games, or who have been sidelined due to an injury. Located in Winter Park, Fla., behind Full-Sail University, SSP is also contracted to athletic programs at Rollins College, Trinity Prep School in Winter Springs, and numerous different clubs in many sports in the Central Florida area. “Working with each individual personality and making sure they’re physically ready is something we take great pride in,” he continued. “My primary goal is injury prevention, and those who do get injured, to get them back on the field as soon as possible.” SSP currently works with the Lions on a full-time basis, including offseason, preseason and throughout the regular season. Team training and individual training is also another asset SSP does. “We have a 7,500 square-foot facility where we train individual clients in all sports, but satellite sites like the Seminole Soccer Complex where Orlando City train is where we also train,” he concluded.
