Thank You to Our Fans and Supporters Orlando City SC recognizes those who supported bill
As the Legislative Session came to a close on Friday, May 3, the Senate Bill that included language that would allow for a funding source from the state for an MLS stadium in Orlando was not brought to the floor. What should have been a simple and straightforward effort for Orlando City SC was complicated by the politics that ensued as a result of other sports franchises in the State of Florida. At a last minute impasse, Speaker of the House, Will Weatherford, decided not to allow Senate Bill #7127 to be heard for a vote. Orlando City SC would like to take time to recognize the fans, who showed undying support throughout this process by sending thousands of letters, emails and social media posts to state and local representatives. Their outpouring of support created a massive buzz in Tallahassee, and ensured that we had the support of the House should we have gotten to a vote. “I couldn’t have been prouder of the efforts of our fans, their response to our ‘Call to Action’ was amazing. They flooded Tallahassee with positive messages of support for Orlando City.” said Orlando City President Phil Rawlins. In addition to the tremendous fan support, City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and his staff, Senator Andy Gardner as well as the local delegation including Senators David Simmons and Darren Soto, and Representatives Bryan Nelson and Linda Stewart worked incredibly hard throughout this process to support our efforts. “While this is a very disappointing setback, it is just that...a setback. We have hit many bumps in the road on our journey but have learned how to overcome them all. This will be no different. We will find a way to make the stadium and MLS a reality for Orlando City,” said Rawlins. For more information and updates on Orlando City, visit Orlandocitysoccer.com.
