Orlando finished off the 2013 preseason with a victory over the 2012 NASL Champion Tampa Bay Rowdies Saturday night, claiming the I-4 Derby title. Sporting Kansas City loanee and Forward Dom Dwyer secured the win for Orlando in St. Petersburg, scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute in front of more than 400 Orlando supporters at Al Lang Field. Sunday marks the start of the 2013 USL PRO regular season for the Lions, with the team traveling to Arizona to face expansion side Phoenix FC (PFC) at Sun Devil Stadium. The game kicks off at 10:30 p.m. EST Sunday, April 7, and will be streamed live on UNation. Let’s see what’s in store for the Lion’s first game of the regular season by going By The Numbers… 8-3-1– The Lions finished the 2013 preseason with a 8-2-1 record, only losing to the Columbus Crew and Toronto FC in the Disney PSC tournament back in February and AS Roma in January. Winning the second leg of the I-4 Derby continued the Lions winning streak to eight straight matches, which includes the collegiate friendlies over the past month of March. 38- The team scored a total 38 goals during this year’s preseason, with Dwyer leading the scoring with eight in just four matches. Midfielder/Forward Jamie Watson is second on the list, scoring six goals during the preseason run. 2-0- Orlando’s first game of the 2012 season was also fell on the April 7th date. Last year, Orlando travelled up to North Carolina to top the Charlotte Eagles 2-0 in its first match of the USL PRO regular season on April 7, 2012. 3– After Phoenix FC’s first two games in the league, the team has netted three points and is currently holds second place in the table. The team had its first win in club history at home against VSI Tampa last Saturday, with Netinho scoring the first ever goal for the franchise in the process. 4,198– The Wolves played its first home game to a sellout crowd of 4,198 fans in the newly refurbished ASU Soccer Stadium.
