By The Numbers: Orlando City v Tampa Spartans (Friendly) Lions close 2013 collegiate friendlies Monday night against UT at Seminole Soccer Complex with kickoff at 7 p.m.
Orlando City continued its winning streak Thursday night against Rollins College, beating the college team 6-0 in the Lion’s second to last preseason collegiate friendly of 2013. The Lions dominated possession throughout the game while Sporting Kansas City’s loanee Dom Dwyer scored his first hat trick with Orlando in the win. The Lions now move on to the last preseason collegiate friendly before the USL PRO regular season start in early April. Playing against the University of Tampa at the Seminole Soccer Complex, Orlando will be looking to make it the third straight year the team has remained unbeaten in its collegiate friendlies. The game against the Spartans kicks off at 7 p.m. at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Sanford, Fla. Let’s see what the game has in store by going By The Numbers… 13 –There are only 13 days until the Lions’ 2013 USL PRO regular season kicks off. Orlando City’s first game is away against expansion side Phoenix Wolves on Sunday, April 7. 27 – The Lions are averaging a goal every 27 minutes during the preseason. Fourteen different players have scored over the nine games, totaling 30 goals. 69 – Rookie Brian Fekete will be playing his alma mater on Monday. While at the University of Tampa, he played 69 matches, scoring seven goals. He also ranks third in the team’s history of minutes played, totaling 5,460 minutes as a Spartan. 1 – 0 – Monday’s game is the second time the Lions will play the Spartans. The teams met during Orlando’s 2012 preseason collegiate friendlies, with Dennis Chin scoring the only goal of the game for Orlando City. 6-2 – Tampa went on to have a successful season after its loss to Orlando, finishing second in the Sunshine State Conference with a record of 6-2 (just above Rollins College).
