Feeling Right At Home New Orlando City loanees talk about life in Central Florida
New Orlando City SC loanees Jon Kempin and Dom Dwyer sat down and spoke with orlandocitysoccer.com about adapting to life in Orlando since moving to Central Florida from Major League Soccer(MLS) side Sporting Kansas City. “I love it here, training is really intense, and Iʼve definitely seen an improvement since starting here,” said backup Goalkeeper Jon Kempin after Tuesdayʼs practice. “Itʼs sunny and hot here while back in Kansas City itʼs cold and snowing, so I like this whole weather change.” Jon Kempin is most notable for being Sporting KCʼs starting goalkeeper in last yearʼs Lamar Hunt U.S. Cup when Orlando City visited Sporting Park. “It was definitely great learning under Jimmy(Nielsen), who got MLS goalkeeper of the year, and being around Head Coach Peter(Vermes), whoʼs been all over the place,” Kempin added. “To come down here and having faith to play games here.” Since Lionsʼ Head Coach Adrian Heath made it clear that all 22 players have to compete for a spot in his starting XI, Kempin has remained focused to play and learn from the Captain Miguel Gallardo. “Migy(Miguel Gallardo) is a great goalkeeper, heʼs been around for a while, won a few championships, itʼs going to be tough,” said Kempin. “I want to learn from him, learn from coach, get better every day and earn my chance.” While on the other side of the team, Forward Dom Dwyer spoke about goals, playing time and enjoying the hot Florida weather. “I love it, all the guys are fun, they work hard and itʼs a very professional environment,” said Dwyer. “I just want to get going and play games, score some goals and get a spot in the team.” The Norwich City youth product, who also attended the University of South Florida, appeared only once for Sporting KC in 2012 due to injuries, but is looking to bounced back with the Lions once the season kicks off on April 7 in Phoenix, Ariz. “Itʼs very competitive, everyone wants to win,” added Dwyer. “At the moment, Iʼm here and loving it.” |
