Moving To A Higher Level Of Soccer Within the last four years, Orlando City has shipped five players to MLS
Last week, Lionsʼ Defender Jerome Mechack was shipped to Major League Soccerʼs (MLS) Sporting Kansas City, making him the fifth player in the last four years to make a move to a Major League Soccer club under Orlando City Orlando City SC Head Coach Adrian Heath told OrlandoCitySoccer.com he couldn’t be more proud of his latest product heading to the major leagues. “Weʼre pleased and very proud of Jerome (Mechack),” said Heath. “We take a lot of pride in that,” Heath told orlandocitysoccer.com. “Some of the players have gone to good clubs; Sporting Kansas City, Real Salt Lake, DC United, so weʼre pleased to give players opportunities to go on to the next level.” Jerome Mechack joins Eddie Johnson (former Portland Timber), Yordany Alvarez, Lawrence Olum and Lewis Neal to make the leap from Heath’s squads to the MLS. Former Orlando Defender Lawrence Olum, now part of partner club and MLSʼ Sporting Kansas City, talked about his tenure with Orlando last week at the finale of the 2013 Disney Pro Soccer Classic. “Between the two teams, they have an idea of what they want,” Olum said after Sporting KCʼs clash against DC United in the Disney PSC. “I learned a lot here (in Orlando) and am thankful that Orlando gave me the opportunity of taking my talents to the next level.” With the ambitions of Orlando going on to play in MLS, Coach Heath feels its fair to say that Orlando City is the club to come if a player wants to go on to play at a higher level. “I think we play the best football outside the MLS and are the best team outside of the MLS,” Heath said. “I think we have the players that have the talent to go play at a higher level. We have two or three players in our club that can take it to the next level. Weʼll continue to work with them, work hard with them until they get that break.” |
