OConnor Leading Youth Camps In 2013 Lion Midifelder To Bring Experience, Leadership In Revamped Youth Camps
As of recently, Orlando City Midfielder James O’Connor, along with his company Premier Soccer Stars, have participated in player development by holding seasonal camps throughout the year with the hopes of growing into a recognizable camp around Central Florida. “I feel my experience both playing and my coaching qualification gives me the opportunity to really have an influence in the youth camp business,” O’Connor told orlandocitysoccer.com on the recent changes in the camps, which are hosted by Orlando City Youth Soccer. Besides giving the youth in Orlando the chance to learn the sport of soccer, those participating in seasonal camps are introduced to an enrichment program where they will be taught about life skills, nutrition and yoga. City players such as Luke Boden, Rob Valentino, Dennis Chin and Miguel Gallardo have participated in recent camps, serving as coaches and speakers to many of the youth that have participated in past camps. “I want to get players (Orlando City) involved within the camps,” says O’Connor on what Orlando City can do to help out with the camps. “Players will talk to children on their experiences and how they became a pro player.” Along with scrimmages being played, Premier Soccer Stars looks to expand throughout the Central Florida area to promote the sport from an angle not seen from many clubs throughout the country. “My passion is to help kids,” O’Connor says, currently holding a UEFA Pro coaching license. “It’s about having a camp where there are lots of kids as its a better atmosphere for everyone there. We’ll also have scrimmages where the kids will play, but also have talks on life skills and other topics to keep kids involved, the best practices in soccer,” he added. With spring camp looking to start on March 25-28, O’Connor feels that having a program installed is a good way to give back to the community and parents. “What we want is a camp with lots of kids because that creates a better atmosphere,” said O’Connor on the philosophy on the camp. “From our point of view, we have implemented the changes (Orlando City Youth) for the better of the program and children.” |
