Top Moments of 2012: #1 Garber Comes To Town Our countdown concludes with the #1 moment of the year that was 2012
What kicked off all of the Major League Soccer (MLS) hype in Orlando is what concludes our Top 5 moments of 2012 countdown. When MLS Commissioner Don Garber came to town for meetings with local city/county leaders and a supporter’s summit back in February- Orlando put themselves on the expansion map. The “Don” was blown away when he walked into Mojos and saw the bar was overflowed with City supporters.(It’s also worth a note that all those fans came during work hours). After a brief introduction, both Garber and Orlando City President Phil Rawlins answered questions from fans and press alike, leaving us with the quote “It’s not if, but when” in regards to City’s MLS hopes. After that, you couldn’t bring up expansion without mentioning Central Florida and Orlando City as a prime candidate. We look forward to a great 2013 season here at Orlando City. The Disney Pro Soccer Classic kicks off in February, while the much-anticipated friendly series against the Tampa Bay Rowdies follows in March with A.S. Roma just around the corner on January 2. Orlando hopes to continue their dominance during USL play, looking for a three-peat in USL PRO regular season titles, while also avenging a postseason loss to once again be crowned kings of the league. So while 2012 had its moments, that chapter is now closed. The past is the past as we usher in the new year. 2013, here we come. |
