Orlando City might’ve been the quietest regular season champions in the history of USL PRO

The Lions might’ve been the quietest regular season champions in the history of USL PRO, and quite possibly U.S. Soccer, this past season.

Led by two goals in the first 25 minutes and two more from Forward Dennis Chin in the second half, Orlando clinched their second consecutive USL PRO regular season title by defeating the Charleston Battery 4-0 in front of nearly 5,000 fans at the Citrus Bowl.

The championship might have been expected. After all, Orlando already accomplished the same feat in 2011, so the fanfare wasn’t as high. But what City did in 2012, however, was something much more impressive than anything in their inaugural season of 2011.

Looking at the past two years, City lost six games in 2011 compared to just one in 2012. The club totaled 51 points last year compared to 57 this year and won 15 games last season in comparison to 17 this year.

Head Coach Adrian Heath wasn’t kidding when he said, “Our goal is to win every single game.” Just don’t be surprised if those numbers continue to climb as we head into the 2013 season.
