Orlando City visits the Houston DynamoThe Orlando City front office visited the Houston Dynamo to learn more about the inner workings of MLS
It’s been a while since we updated you all on the team’s progress towards MLS, so we thought now was a great time to bring everyone up to speed. We speak with MLS on a regular basis, this keeps the league apprised of our progress towards expansion, as well as how the franchise is running currently. The latest development came just this past weekend. Thanks to our first-round-bye in the playoffs, we have an open week in the schedule, so the directors of every department took advantage of the free-time and made a short trip to the Houston Dynamo. Arriving on Sunday, we toured BBVA Compass Stadium. We were able to see all facets of the facility, as well as learn the reasoning behind the various design and development decisions. This information will prove invaluable as we progress on our own stadium project. After the tour, we watched the Dynamo/Columbus Crew match from the stands, and were able to experience the fantastic atmosphere Major League Soccer’s newest facility had to offer. Yesterday, each Orlando City department head met with their counterpart at the Dynamo to compare and contrast current practices and procedures. We’ve all learned a lot and will be applying our newfound knowledge to the 2013 season. “I have long considered Houston Dynamo to be a really well run franchise and one that we can learn a lot from," said Phil Rawlins, Orlando City, President. "The new stadium is fantastic and shows just what you can achieve on a limited budget with good planning and guidance. We would like to thanks Chris Canetti and his team for their hospitality, it was a very informative visit." As you can see, our road to MLS is one we’re traveling every day and it will take time and good planning. Every day we’re one step closer to the goal. As Commissioner Garber said on his visit to Orlando in March, “It’s not a matter if, but a matter of when.” Thank you for joining us on our journey! To help us take the next step, don’t forget to pick up your tickets to next Friday’s playoff opener! Though we’re still waiting for our opponent to be decided, tickets are already on sale.
