The OC 3: Taking a much-deserved breakAfter a grueling few weeks, the Lions get a week off
After garnering six more points this past weekend on the road, Orlando City takes a deserved week off of matches in preparation of the regular season finale on August 17 and the playoffs soon after. Check out today’s OC3 to see the three key story lines in the Orlando City organization. 1) Calm before the storm - Orlando City is taking a much needed break after two road victories this past weekend. The win over Harrisburg on Friday night set new clubs records for wins and points in a season, with the topping of Rochester on Sunday extending those accomplishments to 17 wins and 56 points, respectively. Playing with some “second team” players, Orlando showed no slowing down. Backup Goalkeeper Sean Kelley showed no rust, making key saves in both matches to lead the Lions in both victories, while Jamie Watson continued to find his stride at the most opportune time of the season as the midfielder scored three goals during the road swing. The USL PRO semifinal will be held on Friday, August 31 at the Florida Citrus Bowl as the Lions captured home field advantage back on July 27 with the USL PRO Regular Season Championship. The potential USL PRO Championship will also be at the Citrus Bowl should the Lions advance, with Saturday, September 8 being the date of the title match. 2) Slogan winner announced soon - Last week, we announced that you, the fan, could submit your best playoff slogan for the 2012 USL PRO playoffs. Needless to say, we were thrilled at the feedback and the number of entries given to our Twitter account, @OrlandoCitySC, in only a short period of time. The announcement will come later today, with brand new graphics and marketing material appearing with the slogan as the feature toward the end of the month. The creator of the slogan will be crowned “Player for the Day”, receiving their own custom Orlando City kit while sitting on the bench with the rest of the team during City’s regular season finale on August 17 against the Dayton Dutch Lions. 3) Awards Dinner Selling Out - The second annual awards dinner is close to selling out its capacity of 350 people at the Rosen Plaza Hotel. The dinner, which follows the season finale against the Dayton Dutch Lions on August 18, is a chance for all fans, staff, sponsors and players to relive the best moments of the 2012 USL PRO Regular Season. Very few individual tickets are left, but you can still purchase them for $55 per person. For more information on how to purchase a ticket, call (855) ORL-CITY today! |
