The ladies defeated Gurabo FC in the Disney Cup Final 6-0 with outstanding creativity in the final third and superb conditioning. The Girls are so excited to be the first OCYS champs and used that driving force as motivation throughout the tournament. The girls defeated Gurabo 2-1 in pool play and felt this was their toughest opponent. They came out on a mission with Evelyn Neidert notching her sixth goal of the tournament in the 3rd minute on another well placed cross from Sabrina Magno. Magno then found Brittany Forrester in the 10 minute and Forrester finished from the top of the box. This was Magno’s ninth assist of the tournament to lead all teams. Tori Cutlip followed up an Alexka Santeliz shot to make it 3-0 and then Alexka hit a bomb of her own just before half to make the score 4-0. The Puerto Rican team appeared a bit fatigued as they played an overtime semi-final against Canada while OCYS cruised 9-0 in the semis. The girls were able to control the game as they continued to play everything through their back four to create spacing and quality opportunities. The second half was a bit slower as the 105 degree heat index started to take its toll. Two second half goals, by Kiehle Mohre and Alexka Santeliz respectively, ended an outstanding weekend for the girls. The girls represented the club with dignity and class and acted as good American hosts to our neighbors from Puerto Rico and Canada. “I was pleased with the performance from the girls,” said Coach Bobby Hurring. “Their ability to find space and possess the ball all weekend was a sight to see.” Outstanding Players: Our two Centerbacks, Amanda Raleigh and Maddie Loftus, were incredible. They were able to shut down Gurabo FC’s J Carrion from finding the net. She had scored all of their goals during the tournament and Amanda Raleigh did a wonderful job of shutting her down all game. Maddie Loftus was terrific in her defending as she communicated well with Amanda and played the second defender strong. Their communication and shutting down the middle of the field and J Carrion set the tone for the girls. For photos from the tournament, visit the OCYS Facebook page.
