Seventh Inning Sinks Bravehearts

Pittsfield, MA- After an off day on Thursday, the Bravehearts traveled to Pittsfield Friday night to take on the Suns. Worcester managed to score early, but their bats were silenced the rest of the way as the Suns snapped a seven game losing streak, winning 5-2.

Worcester got the scoring going in the third inning, although it was all they managed to get. After the first two batters were retired, Chris Rinaldi singled into center to bring up Michael Dellicarri. The lefty roped a two-run home run over the short right field wall to give Worcester the early lead.

JT Morin took a perfect 0.00 ERA into the game and managed to maintain his perfection. The lefty pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball only allowing four hits and one walk while striking out five batters.

Right-hander Rob Cerulle replaced Morin. In 1 1/3 innings pitched, Cerulle got handed the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) and four hits. On the flip side, Gage Feeney got the win for Pittsfield, going seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits along with five strikeouts.

The Suns answered in the sixth, as Drew DeMartino ripped a double down the left field line to begin the inning. After a walk to Alexander White, Dylan Faircloth got the Suns on the board with an RBI single, scoring DeMartino. The Suns failed to tie the game in the sixth however, as Taylor Meilleur grounded out to first to end the inning.

Pittsfield did manage to tie the game in the following inning. Lead-off man Josh Gurnack singled and was replaced by Kyle Cronk to run. The next batter Jack Culumovic hit a ground ball under the glove of Mariano Ricciardi allowing Cronk to advance to third and Culumovic to second. Chad Shade then singled in Cronk to tie the game at two. DeMartino followed with an RBI single of his own, making it 3-2 Suns as Culumovic crossed the plate. Brian McHale followed with a two-run single, scoring Shade and DeMartino, increasing the lead to 5-2.

Kyle O'Neill got the save for Pittsfield pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Worcester will return home to Hanover Insurance Park tomorrow to once again face off against the Pittsfield Suns. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm.
