RailCats win on Virtual Opening Day! 

 

The Gary Southshore RailCats won over the Milwaukee Milkmen, 6-4 Friday night. The Virtual Home Opener for the RailCats took off on a high note in the first inning where Will Savage, center fielder, hit a triple. Savage kickstarted the RailCats hitting spree with Ray Jones to follow, batting in Savage for the first run of the game for the RailCatsAndrew Dziezak, RailCats season ticket holder and Virtual Opening Day video game designerstarted on the mound for the RailCats, holding on for an inning and a third before being retired.  

 

Gary stayed in the lead for the entirety of the game despite a being tied in the second inning. It was a few quick hits in the third that Gary rocked forward with two more insurance runs in the fourth. The Milkmen came back in the fifth and stayed on the heels of Gary for the remainder of the night, always staying within two runs of the 'Cats 

 

With a plethora of substitutions and pitching changes for both teams, it was the mid reliever, Jerome Tachik, RailCats fan and contest winner, for the RailCats who got the win. Victor Diaz took the loss for the Milkmen.  

Final Box score for the game had Gary grabbing six runs off 12 hits and only committing one error. The Milkmen were able to score four runs off seven hits and no errorsRailCats take home the 6-4 Win against the Milkmen in this virtual home opener.  

 

The American Association will aim for a start date of the season in early July. The league intends a season that will include 80 games and extend to late September. The early July timeline, along with the length of the season, is subject to the ability to hold games in home markets while abiding by federal, state, provincial governments laws and municipal health orders and guidelines.
